Drifting has been my dream for as long as I can remember, and I finally got the chance to send it at Orange Show Speedway in Southern California! But let me tell you—getting sideways wasn’t the only adventure of the day.
The Almost-Derailment in Apple Valley
Like any good drift story, mine started with a tiny disaster. Before heading to Orange Show, I made a pit stop at a track in Apple Valley. Everything was going great… until I realized something horrifying—I dropped my car key.
Cue the panic.
I searched everywhere—the pits, my gear bag, under the car, inside the car (you know, just in case I somehow forgot how keys work). Nothing. It was gone. My first-ever drift event was slipping away before it even started.
Then, my guardian angel in a tow truck arrived: AAA. After what felt like an eternity, they came through with a key replacement, and just like that, I was back in the game. Crisis averted!
Finally Hitting the Track!
I rolled into Orange Show Speedway, still buzzing from the morning’s chaos, but the second I saw the track, everything else faded away. The layout was tight and technical—perfect for learning. My nerves kicked in as I lined up for my first run.
Would I spin out? Would I even be able to link a corner? Would I end up on some meme page for all the wrong reasons? No time to think—I was up!
I dropped the clutch, sent it into the first turn, and BOOM—rear tires lit up, car sliding, adrenaline pumping. My first-ever drift felt like pure magic. Sure, it wasn’t the cleanest run, and there were a few whoops moments, but I was hooked.
Lessons, Laughs, and Tire Smoke
The rest of the day was a blur of tire smoke, high-fives, and learning from the more experienced drivers. I got some solid advice, made a few adjustments, and by the end of the day, my confidence (and angle) had improved.
Drifting at Orange Show Speedway was everything I hoped for and more. And despite almost missing the whole thing thanks to my lost key, I wouldn’t change a thing—it made the day even more unforgettable.
One thing’s for sure: this is just the beginning. Can’t wait to do it all over again… hopefully without the key drama next time!
Until next time—stay sideways!
